Using ISDN Dial-up Internet Access
Just imagine what would happen if you´re trying to connect to the internet but you´re unable to do so because your Internet Service Provider (ISP) broadband is down for various reasons. It can be quite annoying. This is where Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) comes into play.
ISDN is a communication standard for carrying voice, video, data and other digital network services over ordinary telephone copper wire. This has since then enhanced the ordinary use of telephone lines which was previously used for voice and data transmission only. There is a circuit-switched and packet-switched connection associated with ISDN, which can be used for voice and/or data transmission in growths of 68 kbps. Using ISDN to access the Internet can offer higher speed rate of up to 128 kbps over the traditional modem dial-up phone rate of 56 kbps. Ordinary dial up connections also have the tendency to experience busy/engaged tones when trying to connect to the Internet and restriction of telephone calls when connected to the internet.
ISDN internet is a much better choice for fast, cheap, flexible and pay as you go internet access. The flexibility of ISDN is based on the fact that it can be connected at anytime, you only pay for your usage and it does not restrict your telephone usage. The bandwidth availability is also greater, making downloads, video streaming and conferencing a lot faster and less time consuming. This service is free of set up fee, monthly charges, contracts or disconnection fee, making it a cheap PAYG Internet service provider. The only cost associated with using ISDN as a dial up connection is the telephone service rate payable to your telephone company for dialing the access number. The access number is a "0844" number which generally go for as low as 1p per min. In other words, if you need a quick and easy access to Internet, ISDN is the way to go!
ISDN can be used at home for quick internet access, offices during business hours. Remote access is readily available from various public locations, especially areas where broadband is restricted or not available. The only requirement for using ISDN to access the Internet is your computer and the dial up access details.
Note: The use of dial-up ISDN for Internet connection is available to people residing in the United Kingdom only. This service will not work for other European Union and non-EU countries due to the access number.
