How to Install a Dial-Up Connection in Windows XP
On most Microsoft Windows operating systems you should be able to use the automatic dial-up installation tool on the home page, however this guide shows you how to configure your settings manually on Windows XP.
Please note, this guide only covers configuring the dialup connection itself. It does not provide information on installation and setup of your modem hardware. For assistance with this please contact either your modem or PC manufacturer.
- On the Windows Start menu, choose 'Control Panel'.
- Double-click on 'Network Connections'.
- Choose 'Create a new connection'.
- A dialogue box will open welcoming you to the New Connection Wizard, click 'Next'.

- For 'Network Connection Type', choose 'Connect to the Internet' and click 'Next'.
- Select 'Set up my connection manually', and click 'Next'.
- Choose 'Connect using a dial-up modem'. Click 'Next'.
- You may be asked to choose which modem to use for this connection. Make your selection and click 'Next'.
- In the 'ISP Name' box type a name to identify this connection, for example 'Connect4Free'. Click 'Next'.
- Type 0844 535 2150 for the 'Phone number'. Click 'Next'.

- You will be asked which users will use this new connection. If you are unsure choose 'Anyone's use' and click 'Next'.
- Type 'Connect' into the 'User name' box and '4free' in the 'Password' box and again to confirm. If this is your main connection, keep both tick boxes checked and click 'Next'.

- Your connection has been successfully created. Click 'finish'.
Your connection should now be ready for use.
